Le Marche has some wonderful beaches along its Eastern coastline. The coastline stretches a massive 180 kilometres along the Adriatic giving holidaymakers plenty of choice when it comes to where to take that bucket and spade! In fact Le Marche proudly boasts the highest number of Blue Flag beaches of any region in Italy.
Some of the bigger, more well known resorts include Gabicce Mare, Pesaro, Senigallia and San Benedetto del Tronto. However, there are plenty of smaller resorts lying below the limestone peak of Monte Conero which are worth exploring too. These include Portonovo, Sirolo and Numana. Arguably, this is the more attractive part of Le Marche’s coastline, protected as it is by the Conero regional park. Green hills roll right down to the sea with their excellent beaches.
Pesaro is an attractive seaside resort, with a popular town centre, some great shopping and good sandy beaches. The Levante is probably one of the best beaches here for young children and is ideal for children wanting to swim in the sea. It has a dozen or so fee-paying beach concessions, but there is also a free section which begins opposite the southern end of Viale Trieste.
If you are looking for a fun and relaxing holiday at the beach but do not want to miss the chance to also learn something about the local culture, the town of Senigallia is your perfect holiday destination in Le Marche! Laid on the Adriatic coast, just before the region’s capital and the famous Monte Conero with its white-sand beaches, Senigallia is an ancient city that will tick all the boxes! Home to important historical buildings as the famous Rocca Roveresca, which forms part of the ancient city walls, Senigallia combines the picturesque views of a typical Italian town with the vitality of a modern city. During the Summer it is one of the main beach resorts thanks to its famous Spiaggia di Velluto, literally ‘Velvet Beach’, and is one of the Le Marche region’s most popular towns for events and nightlife. Summer Jamboree, an international festival of 40’s and 50’s American music that attract tourists from all over the world, takes place every August with its concerts on the beach. Senigallia is also synonymous with good food. On the seafront you will find hundreds of restaurants and cafés, among them ‘Uliassi’ a two Michelin star restaurant! And if you’re looking for some fun with your family or friends, do not miss the chance to get lost in the famous maze Hort just outside the city… an experience you will never forget!
It’s important to note that whilst all resorts have a free public breach area (spiaggia libera), it’s often worth paying to get entry to one of the beach concessions where you’ll be guaranteed an umbrella and sun bed and the beach. Entry is normally not very expensive and it’s all part of absorbing yourself in the Italian way of life during your holiday!
If you decide to rent a boat for the day, you’ll also gain access to some of the more secluded beaches along Le Marche’s coastline.
