- Buonanotte Barbanera, Spello, Umbria
Taking the top spot on our list of the top 10 villas in Italy is this luxury 3 bedroom villa in Umbria. This super stylish Italy villa comfortably sleeps up to 6 guests in 3 luxurious double bedrooms, each with their own unique style. Guests can’t help but fall in love with the stunning private terrace, set under the beautiful arches of a 14th century church, nor could guests ever possibly tire of the incredible views over the rolling hills of Umbria. And the icing on the cake?!! Whilst you may feel like you’re in the heart of rural Umbria, step out the garden gate and you’re in the heart of Spello, our favourite town in Italy with its plethora of incredible restaurants, wine bars and shops.
2. Casa Belva, Lake Maggiore, Italian Lakes
Next on our list of top villas in Italy is Casa Belva, a stunning, contemporary villa in the Italian Lakes. Sleeping up to 6 guests in 3 modern, interior designed bedrooms, this Italian Lakes villa also boasts its own pool and gym. The interior has been cleverly designed to make the most out of the breathtaking 180 degree views up and down the lake, whilst at night guests can sit on the terrace and gaze out at the twinkling lights of the Borromean Islands beyond. In the morning, head down through the tiered gardens to the lakeside village of Suna below where you can enjoy an authentic Italian breakfast with the locals!
3. Villa Cortona, Cortona, Tuscany
It’s not hard to see why Villa Cortona makes it onto our list of our top 10 favourite villas in Italy. The owners have passionately and authentically restored this villa in Tuscany and have furnished it with the perfect mix of old and new. We always fall hook, line and sinker for a good view and views don’t come much more spectacular or far reaching than those from Villa Cortona stretching over 80 km away to Mount Amiata. Whether you choose to stay in the Summer to make the most of the immaculately kept pool and gardens or in the Winter to cosy up in front of the fireplace, you’re guaranteed to have an incredible holiday here.
4. The Residence, Ostuni, Puglia
The first of our Puglia villas to make it on the list of our best Italy villa rentals, The Residence is an impressive 8 bedroom villa near the famous ‘White City’ of Ostuni. The contemporary interior uses a neutral palette of creams, whites and beige tones along with naturally, locally sourced materials such as olive wood and limestone to create the most incredibly calming and relaxing space in which to unwind on holiday. Not only that, but you’ll find plenty of luxurious touches to make your stay even more enjoyable – not just but two swimming pools, a wine cellar and plenty of optional services on tap including a private chef or even an opera singer to serenade you.
5. Villa Lesa, Lake Maggiore, Italian Lakes
One of our best villas in Italy for smaller groups or couples, Villa Lesa is a 2 bedroom villa in the beautiful Italian Lakes region. The interior decor is super stylish and we particularly love how the floor to ceiling windows in the open plan living, dining and kitchen area truly manages to bring the outdoors in. The mature gardens give the impression that you’re in a secret hideaway, miles from nowhere whilst, in reality, you have the convenience of having the local beaches, shops and amenities pretty much on your doorstep. Avoid the stress of hiring a car at this Italy villa rental and instead explore the area on foot and by using the public boat network.
6. Villa Ann, Monsummano Terme, Tuscany
The perfect villa in Italy for the traditionalists amongst our guests, Villa Ann may have been built in the second half of the 20th century but the interior has been furnished in such a way that it gives the impression that you have stepped back 200 years. I have never known owners to put so much passion into the inter decor of a property. Alessandro and his wife literally spent decades sourcing the most incredible antiques that give Villa Ann heart and soul in bucketfuls. This really is a very special place to stay.

Another of our favourite smaller villas in Italy, perfect for a couple, the Courtyard Apartment is a newly renovated and beautifully presented 1 bedroom villa in Spello. We absolutely love the colour scheme and the hues of green, yellow and orange that echo throughout every room. With views out to the rolling hills to one side and with the shops and restaurants of Spello to the other, this is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for an authentic break in Italy. Shop for your groceries in the local village store rather than heading to the supermarket or eat out with the locals.
