Once in Naples, the first option is to hire a car to get out and about during your holiday. If you are planning to hire a car during your stay, Bookings For You are proud to recommend Rental Cars. Just one word of caution though…. the roads around the Amalfi coast are narrow and windy. The main coastal road, in particular, is to be avoided if you’re a nervous driver. With sheer drops on one side and buses coming in the other direction taking up most of the road, it can be pretty terrifying for those not used to roads like this. Even confident drivers may feel that they miss out on being able to enjoy the wonderful coastal views if they are having to concentrate on the road in front of them.
If you decide that driving isn’t for you, there are plenty of private taxi and chauffeur companies who can drive you from the airport to your choice of holiday property. Please email us for more information.
Another option if you want to avoid hiring a car is to get around by train. The train is certainly a great option to use if you want to visit some of the larger cities and destinations during your stay. It’s also one way to get from the airport to the Amalfi Coast if you don’t hire a car. If you want to explore the railway travel information, then all the train times can be found at www.trenitalia.it. There is also a secondary line called “circumvesuviana”, that connects all the towns between Naples and Sorrento railway station. Timetables for this line can be viewed at www.vesuviana.it.
Buses are another option. All the timetables can be found at www.sitabus.it.
The Metro del mare is an extension of the urban public transport system. Open from Easter until mid to late October, this ferry system is a great option for those looking to get to all the main towns along the Amalfi Coast by sea rather than road.
Another option is to take a tour of the area on two wheels. Vesparound offer guided tours of the area. With parents’ permission, children of 12 years and above are also allowed to ride with the guide allowing families to also enjoy this experience. Alternatively, you could rent a scooter and explore the area on your own. There are a few companies offering scooter rental including www.amalfibikerental.com.
