This Cortona villa is an absolutely stunning four bedroom luxury Tuscany villa, extensively renovated by the current owners over a two year period to create the incredible luxury holiday villa you see today. Villa Cortona is steeped in history. Its origins date as far back as the 14th century when the central tower served as a watchtower to defend the city of Cortona. Since then, its history has been rich and varied, once owned by a Grandmaster of the Knights of Malta and later, in 1868, it was the birthplace of Paolino Tribbioli, a prominent Catholic clergyman who played a vital role in bringing the Catholic Church to India.
The interior of this luxury Tuscany villa is immaculately presented and beautifully furnished throughout using a successful combination of modern furnishings alongside beautiful antiques. The restoration has been extremely sympathetic, with the owner maintaining many original features including the wooden ceiling beams and clay and marble tiles.
On the ground floor of this Cortona villa rental, guests will find a large entrance hall, well equipped professional kitchen, separate dining room and stylish spacious living area. This room has large comfortable sofas arranged around a beautiful antique fireplace.
Upstairs, there are four double bedrooms in this luxury Tuscany villa, all equipped with air conditioning and boasting ensuite bathrooms decorated with travertine tiles, stone sinks and high quality fittings. One also has a free standing bath tub, perfect for a long soak after a days sightseeing.
Outside, terraced gardens are immaculately kept as you'd expect from any luxury Tuscany villa, with lush green lawns, lemon trees and mature trees providing shade. A large terrace overlooking the private swimming pool below (open from 1 May to 1 October) is furnished with a large outdoor table and chairs, perfect for al fresco dining. It's also the perfect spot to enjoy an aperitivo as the sun sets over the hills. A separate pergola has been constructed adjacent to the pool to provide shade from the heat of the midday sun.
Please note that rates exclude a 150 euro fee payable locally on arrival to cover utility costs.
Villa Cortona boasts an idyllic setting, with incredible views over the Valdichiana valley to Montepulciano, as well as to Mount Amiata in the distance over 80 km away! It's also just a short 10 minute drive from the popular town of Cortona, and close to Lake Trasimeno.
Its about 1 km by car to the local village of Pergo and the village can also be reached on foot - we can recommend heading there for your coffee each morning! There is a very good village supermarket and macelleria here for fresh meat as well as a couple of coffee bars, two pizza places, a hardware store, dentist and clothes shop. If you need a bank, you can either go to Camucia (10 mins by car) or to Cortona which is the same distance away. The nearest station for journeys to Rome, Florence and Arezzo is in Camucia and you buy your ticket in the cafe next door.
The setting of this luxury Tuscany villa is completely private, quiet and peaceful but it's also ideally placed to explore the very best that both Tuscany and Umbria have to offer.
